Years 2–3 — Yellow Belt

Goal: I can greet someone, ask and answer simple questions about name, age, sushi, favourite food and favourite drink.

Your yellow belt goal

When you earn this belt, you will be able to…

Start having a simple Japanese conversation about yourself and what you like.

(Hajimemashite) — Nice to meet you.
(Onamae wa?) and answer with your name, for example (Boku wa John desu).
(Nansai desu ka?) and tell someone your age.
  • Ask and answer whether you like something: すしが すきですか (Sushi ga suki desu ka?).
  • Ask about favourite foods and drinks: すきな たべものは? (Suki na tabemono wa?) and すきな のみものは? (Suki na nomimono wa?).

Your speaking challenge

First answer the Japanese questions. Then practise asking the questions yourself.
